I think you’re right about the problem with establishment Democrats trying to push candidates through promotion and making them a thing, rather than letting the people decided who the candidate should be. And you’re right about the problem with pushing ‘anointed’ candidates on Democratic primary voters doesn’t work out too well (Hillary Clinton in 2016). You diagnosed the systemic problem which gives me hope for the future.
